Autumn, or fall, is the time nature goes inwards. Leaves fall, flowers wither and most plants go back into their roots.
That’s also the case for us humans. We go emotionally inwards, like nature. This might not be easy.
If you live with nature, it can be a bit easier. That’s one important reason we try to live and celebrate the seasons in Waldorf education. Rudolf Steiner’s soul calendar is also exactly for this reason; at the moment it often tries to help us remember the summer sun, that we keep it in our heart and soul.

Because when the darkness grows outside, we also meet the darkness inside. We go to our roots; our childhood, or past lives. And here are strong emotions, things we wanted but couldn’t, things we needed but weren’t given. Things which were given but we couldn’t handle. Trauma’s.

So when we go inwards, we’re going to meet these things. And it already helps to know that with the season, we’re going inwards if we like it or not. So you better prepare; try to remember the summer sun, the physical warmth and it’s symbolic meaning. Remember winters aren’t perpetual; the emotions you feel now, and/or today will go, even if it now doesn’t feel like it.

And important, meet other people; physical or through other means, through music, art, movie, memes, positive discussions. Because the inner world very well might be dark.
