Tales and spiritual reality (2)

Modern stories

In a previous post I explained how mythologies were, and are, spiritual realities. This makes me always wonder about modern stories. This post is about that wondering.

A bit younger stories than mythologies, the fairytales, have their own symbolism and realities. Some do explain spiritual beings, like elemental beings. Others show processes and archetypes in our astral body. (soul). And again others are old warnings that don’t apply any more, special personal things, or misunderstood/still not understood.

Getting into the 20th century, there are a lot more stories coming into the world. Two stories that I want to highlight, that are (as far as I know) beloved in anthroposophic/spiritual and theatrical circles, are The Neverending Story and Momo, from Michael Ende. Michael Ende was inspired by anthroposophy, had gone a couple of years to a Waldorf school, and multiple of his stories try to bring spiritual knowledge and inspiration into the world. For me, especially the second part of the Neverending Story (fascinatingly not in movies) has some spiritual qualities, that I can’t express yet.

I am curious what the spiritual truths are behind big stories nowadays. Like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars. Harry Potter especially has opened sights into the spiritual world a lot of people didn’t know. I’m often surprised how, for example, USA’ns* don’t know how much of the creatures and beings in Harry Potter are real European/British folklore, not invented by J. K. Rowling. Something she more or less did invent, the Dementors, the embodiment of depression, are an example of some unconscious spiritual insight on her part.

I’ll follow up on this, because I have more things to tell, and are, maybe endless, fascinated and curious.

*with USA’ns I means something like United States Americans. There’s probably a better term, and no, it’s not Americans. Yes, most people than assume I mean the inhabitants of the United States, but the other inhabitants of the continent America disagree. And I agree with that objection.
